Police in the British city of Chester reported the arrest of an employee of a local hospital on charges of murdering eight babies and ten attempted murders.
Countess of Chester Hospital employee Lucy Letby was detained on Tuesday after local police obtained an arrest warrant from the Crown Prosecution Service, according to a statement from the city police.
The charges are part of an ongoing investigation into a number of infant deaths and accidents in the hospital’s neonatal unit between June 2015 and June 2016.
At the moment, the accused is in custody and is due to appear in court on November 12.
Nurse Lucy Letby was arrested on July 3, 2018, as part of an investigation into the deaths of 17 children at the Countess of Chester Hospital neonatal unit. She was charged and then released on bail. It was reported that the nurse cooperated with the investigation. Later, the police of the English county of Cheshire charged the nurse with the murder of three more children.
The investigation began in May 2017, initially investigating 15 deaths that occurred in the hospital between June 2015 and June 2016, but the police became interested in the circumstances of accidents (falls) with six more children that occurred in the same period.
